our review
This is the first video I have had to watch several times before I could concentrate on the techniques.
This video is done outdoors in some amazing scenery in Western Australia. I was looking at this scenery, the kangaroo's, the girls in bikini top's instead of the techniques.
This is without doubt the most visually spectacular Salsa video I have seen.
I will describe this video as a Demonstrational/ instructional video. There are no verbal explanations of the techniques shown but several demo's in all possible views & speeds.
The format usually go's like this. A full screen front view, then a full screen side or back view. Then a slow motion view. Then a spilt screen giving two views at the same time.
I found it was easy to pick up all the techniques using this method.
This video is also the first to use an on screen counter for all the techniques. As the technique is being shown a beat/ rhythm counter is in the top left of the screen.
This video is for intermediate to advanced dancers. The video has some techniques no body else shows. In fact a couple of techniques I will be using as standard moves for myself as they are that good. This video is also full of the most amazing sayings about dancing & life.
Some of the techniques come from Leo Martinez, Wilberto Botey from Habana. I must say these are great dancers & teachers. In fact I also use their techniques in my style.
There is some original Cuban music & Clave rhythms used to teach.
The only complaint about the videos is the use of special effects to introduce the steps. But it's not to bad.
On a personal note. I have known of Fabio Boschetti for a couple of years. He is a well known Australian Salsa teacher. He has also taught at the World Salsa Congresso's.
He is known for being very honest & for having a great passion for Salsa.

This site sells a range of excellent dvd's on Latin dancing.
It's Merengue demo/ instructional video on the same format as the Salsa video and it has an
excellent Music tuition cd which includes a test for your rhythmic skill.

Videos by Master Salsa Technician Eric Freeman

Eric Freeman has been a respected Salsa Master level teacher by us for several years.
Most highly praised series by advanced dancers

Hot Moves for the Salsa Addict Video 1 & Video 2
salsa dance
These  2 videos were the most highly praised Salsa videos on the Salsa Message boards in 2001. Every message poster had nothing but praise for these videos.

These videos are the sequel to the popular Cool Moves 2 video. These videos are packed full of moves/ routines/ demos.
They are very good value. The moves are a mix of LA, NY, Cuban steps. All the moves can be incorporated into LA or NY style. The moves produce a good flow.
The most important thing about the moves taught is that they are leadable & followerable without warning. The male can just lead a female that knows these turns without any tips or warnings.
Eric Freeman has provided a very detailed & accurate review of these videos on his site.
I would class the level as very good beginners to intermediate with some advanced . Most people would class this video as intermediate to advanced.
(Note: My grading standard is a lot higher than most as I have to provide scope for the very complex advanced moves not been taught in any video yet. By this I mean the advanced flips used in performance Salsa.)
I highly recommend these videos.

Hot Moves for the Salsa Addict, Volume III
Quick Review: This is our 5th MUST BUY Video

Beginner to Master level & unique moves

The first move is one of our favorites. It is part of a series of moves performing Salsa with only one hand & arm. We use this series as a rest period/song rather than leave the dance floor. It also enables you to get close to your partner as well.

( Before we go on with our review we would just like to say this. This video has many moves that can be used by physical therapists to teach people in wheelchairs how their partners can still dance with them. This first move in this video is used by Neal for women with only one arm how they can still dance. Many of the chair moves can be used by males in leg casts or wheelchairs.)

Move No. 12 is a MASTER LEVEL move. This move alone is worth the price of this video. Excellent move with a very detailed breakdown.

The styling & unique rotations for many of the moves make them well worth learning. The very detailed moves / twists/ dips done to various musical counts make this video suitable to all styles of Salsa dancers.

There is a cross section of moves from basic social to more performance type moves. There are moves that will suit all levels & types of dancers in this videos.

Move 23 is a favorite. It is part of the Kissing dips series. You do not have to kiss your partner but this is a great dip for it.
In the advance classes here most people dance with their own social partner so we teach this dip with a kiss to the forehead or lips. It just adds to the romantic feeling you can get if dancing to Salsa romantic music.

The sit down moves were excellent. The moves teach you how to have fun & use your dance floor area to enhance your dancing style.

Move No 41 are a must see for all males. Knowing this move alone was worth the price of this video.
As males we all have danced with women that we do not want to for various reasons. This is the best & firm & politest way to get rid of them. Even the women here laughed & could understand the need for us to learn this move.

We would just like to say that it very rude for males to refuse to dance with a female if he is free. This is part of the Salsa culture.

Overall an amazing video with some very unique moves.

Hot Moves for the Salsa Addict, Volume IV
Quick Review: Advanced & interesting moves.
Very good flowing moves.

This video is full of interesting variations of some common & not so common moves. There are some unique moves plus some quite flashy/ performance moves.

The moves are all very well covered. Common mistakes are well covered.

Many of the moves will make you stand out from the crowd.

We really liked the forehead caress dip. This type of caress is very popular in South America ( not in a dip) where it was a technique from the 1930's in Brazil.

There are some very complex enfolding turns.

There are also some of the best ending techniques for songs that we have seen.

Overall a very good continuation of this popular Salsa video series. Well worth buying.

cuban salsa dancehttp://www.salsaville.com/salc_demo.htm

This series is also the most highly praised by Cuban Style dancers.

The original video, "A Demonstrational Video of Cuban-Style Salsa Dancing From The Source ..." is a series of demonstrations of some of the best dancers in Cuba.
This is my favorite demonstration video. The music is great & I just put this on & relax to some great dancing & music. You can also learn from it by pausing & slow forwarding the moves.
Now, as a sequel, Eric has his two favorite couples/teachers (who appear in the demo video -- Joel & Yaqueline and Ibert & Sunny) teaching a series Cuban-Style Salsa moves. (A list of these moves appear in "The Guide To The Videos" which you can find on the web site.)
The new videos are part of the ¡Salsa a la Cubana! video series, and are called:

cuban salsa danceInstructional Video #1: The Fundamentals of Cuban-Style Casino Salsa Dancing
Video#1 covers the level of basic steps shown in Eric's Demonstration video. It teaches you a series of standard Casino moves along with numerous concepts particular to Cuban-style Salsa.
This site provides testimonials from satisfied customers . Online sample clips of the videos
This video teaches the fundaments so the techniques can be learned by anyone. This video is suitable for all Casino dancers.

Instructional Video #2: Advanced Moves  in Cuban-Style Casino Salsa Dancing
Video#2.  This is the first Advanced video on my list. There are some very complex moves here for both male & female dancers.
Both videos teach traditional & modern steps to the most advanced level. The Demo's provide additional steps not taught on the videos.
Review: Due to the complex & advanced nature of some of the turns in the advanced video I recommend that you do not try these moves with anyone but a permanent & advanced partner. Some of these moves are too advanced for normal social nightclub use without practice. I have to look at a move & think about all the types of people who will buy these videos & where they will use them.
This warning is geared towards beginner leaders who will try these moves in a nightclub on an unsuspecting partner.
Some of these turns are seriously unique to update Cuban dancers.
As most of you know as you advance in any dance the steps get harder & more complex.
This video is not a gymnastic video but has complex enfolding & embracing turns.

This series of videos is not really for beginners. You really need to be an advanced Salsa dancer. These videos do cover the basic steps but if you follow the dancers full movements you are getting an advanced lesson even in the most basic moves.
Ladies you cannot just be lead through some of these moves. You are going to have to be an advanced dancer on your own.
These dance steps will separate the great female followers from the great female dancers.
Some of the dance steps for the male are amazing. I usually look at a video & pick up the move straight away. With this video I had to think & review what they were doing. This is the first video I have seen that is hard and is going to really teach me. You are both going to have to practice these moves. You cannot lead a beginner or an intermediate dancer through these moves easily.
These videos teach moves not seen in the other Casino Salsa video.
I am not going to give a break down of the videos as Eric's site has already done this. In far greater detail than I would. Eric has given an honest review of these videos on his site.
Note: You will want to print out some of the pages on Eric's site for these videos. Eric has provided a massive set of written instructions for these videos on his site. In fact I think his review is better than mine. He covers all the points I would want to explain to you. Eric has provided On-line clips of the videos on his site.

Also, there is a SECURE new credit card ordering system. You will find this one easier to use, and for international customers Eric  no longer has to use express mail. This means the shipping & handling costs have been reduced to only $9 for international orders. PAL & NTSC format.

Our review of all three videos : It is always a pleasure to watch people who can dance well.
I watch hundreds of hours of dancing video each year & it is always nice to find
excellent videos. These videos contain some of the smoothest Salsa dancing I have seen.
It is so nice to watch really good advanced dancers.
When I look at an advanced video I am happy if I can find one new move per video.
In these three new videos from Salsaville all had several new moves that I had never seen before.
These 3 new videos contains some common moves up to some of the most advanced Salsa
moves I have ever seen.
There are a couple of what I class as Master level moves in these videos as well.
These are excellent videos. Well worth adding to your collection.

Cool Moves Volume 2

with Master Salsa Technician Eric Freeman & Edie Lewis Co-founder of Salsaweb.
MIXED STYLE LA / NY / CUBAN - SECURE ORDERING
 http://www.salsaville.com

This video is my first must have for your collection.
Best value for money. 60 moves in one tape.
Gives the most detailed information on dancing on the beat.
Includes several Cuban Salsa steps including Casino. This is a teaching video.

This tape is by Eric Freeman & Edie Lewis ( Salsafreak, Co-founder of Salsaweb.com ) The video starts off with a demonstration of dancing on the different beats of Salsa music. This tape is danced on the 1 beat but Eric explains that you can dance on any beat of Salsa Music. ( Most of the professional dancers agree with this view. I know I do) . In this video they explain that you can also vary the beat you are dancing on in some dance sequences. They mix Cuban basics + Salsa walk + Casino Rueda with techniques that are pure LA & NY Salsa.
The techniques range from basic turns to advanced turns & dips. The techniques are shown first at normal speed with music then are broken down in slower motion with Eric calling the beats. They both explain the techniques clearly & with a sense of humor. Each move is clearly separated by a gap with a number so that you can easily find it again. Edie also includes styling tips which are good for women. Edie has also marked her favorite techniques.
This video contains all the techniques you will need for nightclub dancing. Some of the techniques would also be good in competitions or shows.
They finish the 60 moves with a demonstration again of the moves danced to different beats then Cuban Casino on 3.
At the end of the video is information on the music used & how to order it.
This is hopefully the start of a series detailing all of Eric's 1500 Salsa/ Mambo moves. This is a video that everyone should have in their collection. The video explains concepts that are not known to beginners or intermediate Salsa dancers.

Best Ladies / Men's Styling video
Edie "The Salsa Freak"
I would like to say here that I am a traditional thinking dancer in that I believe certain styling techniques should be done by females & certain moves look better done by males.
I do not like males to do female styling techniques except maybe in FUN or to shock your dance partner. Other Salsa videos I have seen have been showing or having styling techniques that should be done only by females. I am well aware that in certain USA cities Men out number Women taking the Women's Styling classes. This is not the case with this video. It is aimed at ladies however because it is very clear in what it teaches I also feel it has some very good UNISEX styling sections.

This video is the best styling video I know off.

The two teachers are both champion performance dancers who give some good demo's. The video has a fun feel to it.
The video gives a written breakdown of what is it.
Many of these sections are also good for males to view.
With all the practical dance steps Edie talks about, She gives a solo demo then a demo with her partner.
For Cuban dancers please take note of the Eagle technique. This is a very common group move in Cuba at the moment.
I have seen dancers in Afro-Cuban & modern dance use this aerial technique. The female is lifted by the others dancers into the air where she performs this arm movement. It has several meaning's but the two most common are a reminder of the Cuban's who have left the Island & for freedom. This technique is a example of a dance movement with a social political meaning. Many Cuba dance steps & movements have a social & or religious meaning, esp the steps from Orisha dancers.
Most of the moves in Edie's Freedom Concept can be done by either males or females. I must point out that if males are going to do styling try to limit it to only 1 or 2 styling moves per song unless it is a Gay song or you are having FUN.
( Tip ) You can also do many of the moves in forward basic Salsa/ Mambo position as well as the backstep.
The video has Partnering techniques that is very good information for both sexes.
Remember to try to take the song's origin or word's or your geological location into account on how much styling you do.
This video is a very good length. It not only covers Salsa but Cumbia & Cucarachas styling techniques.
I must say I liked this video. It was easy to follow & it showed several directions like front, back, side of the techniques.
I feel it is good for both males & females for styling techniques.

El Cubanito's Video Notebook" Video Series
Each video is based on an actual 2-hour advanced level workshop.  The videos were originally conceived as something to help the students remember the material taught in the class (thus the name "Video Notebook").  However, additional information was added so that the video is completely self-contained.

Review of El Cubanito Video

I was predisposed to not like these videos due to their shortness but I was wrong to think like this. I have seen other Salsa videos that were this short that were crap.
Eric's video notebook however is well done & is worth buying.

I must point out I have only ever taught Workshops & have never done a Workshop as a student but I understand what students need to see.

I can understand how the techniques in these videos can be made into 2 hour Workshops.
The other Workshop videos by other Salsa teachers I have seen have not been as good as these.
Students can learn the moves easily from these videos.
Most students will however have to pause & still forward to learn the moves & routines.
There are several moves that I will use in my social dancing.
In fact in this video is the answer to one of my most common moves that I have never had a good ending for.
One of the combinations answers my need for a better ending. ( #2 combination basket )
Also the #2 whip is a move I will start to use tonight.
RMT ( NY ) style dancers will love these moves.
All the moves can be used in social dancing by anyone however.

These are excellent videos of moves that I can use.

This is a Must have video for senior dancers

African Healing Dance (1997)
This is a Master level workout of beginners to advanced Afro & Afro Caribbean steps. This is very similar to the way I was trained. The instructor has missed all the boring steps & has given you the most enjoyable movements. The instructor is one of the best at explaining this form of dancing I have seen. She is also one of the best dancers I have seen.
This is a must for all Afro, Conga, Guaguanco, Arara, Gaga, Bodu, Tajona, Yoruba dancers.
This will not be an easy video for most of you to follow but any of you who want to become Master level Salsa dancers should at least understand the beginners steps from the Afro dances. Most Master level dancers can dance at least the basic Cuban Rumba steps. For those of you who have been to the Salsa Congresso in Puerto Rico, you will know there are many Salsa dance companies that dance "Afro" to Salsa music.
Please note if you use LA style Salsa. Most of the senior dancers in 2001 were performing to Salsa music with Rumba or Samba intro's.

Lets dance LA
L.A. Style Salsa 1&2.
Site has video previews.

Enio Cordoba is one of the top Salsa Master level teachers in the World

Enio Cordoba is an Award wining dance teacher. Enio is one of the few teachers that can combine several dance styles well.
Enio has an extensive background in most of the major dance styles. His knowledge is equal to or better than mine about Salsa.
Advanced Beginners to intermediate. This is a fine tuning video for beginners styling.
This video gives a very detailed explanation of what Salsa is, what styles of Salsa there are, how it changes over time.
There are very detailed explanations & demo's of the basic stances, steps, spins & body movements.
The most common mistakes are covered.
This is really an advanced beginners video for those who want to fine tune their steps & to learn the advanced steps.
It covers shines, adding the tap, spins, Rueda turns, disco moves, the video is full of the most common steps, etc.
It is a good length & worth buying.
Edie Lewis- The Salsa Freak Editor in Chief of Salsa Web has given this video a good review.

LA Style Salsa 3 is an intermediate level technique video with some of the best & most detailed instruction I have seen in a video.
This video shows the start techniques of one of my favorite styles of Salsa, ( Rotational close body ). This style is almost extinct today expect for Master level dancers. This is my normal style of Salsa. It is great for crowded nightclubs.
This video explains the Men & Women's steps separately. All the most common & not so common mistakes are covered.
This is a great video. Over an hour of great techniques.
It is a start to what I regard as the Master level techniques & knowledge.
In all of Enio's video's he gives you tips or insights into Salsa. How it should be danced, differences in style, etc.
Enio's video's are best for those of you who want to move up to the Master level.

Let's Dance LA Casino Rueda videos
Enio Cordoba & Terryl Jones who both appeared in the movie "Dance with me" & were dance instructors for it have produced  2 video's  on Casino Rueda.
Enio is very well known teacher. Very good series. Well worth buying. I enjoyed these tapes. Enio is a very good dancer & teacher. Complete series for both fun & performance. Buy the Johnny Polanco Cd as well.
Video 1 Level 1& 2 video starts off with the Latin All Stars from California performing a exhibition form of Casino Rueda. Enio's style of Salsa Rueda combines high speed Salsa, Square dancing, Disco turns.
Level 1 starts off with the Guaperia basic. Enio shows several basic steps here. Enio teaches as a couple then slows the steps in a 5 couple form. Enio has included a  sound overlay from the video giving better sound quality than some other videos.
The video then shows the Synchronization Basics. Enio counts the beats on the group forms. You cannot hear Enio calling out the steps in the group shots. Enio shows the steps at normal speed he also slows them down & stops at key points. Enio teaches many variations of the basic turns like with the Enchufa step Con El Enano/ El Principe/ La Piscina/ Y Castigala/ Stevie Wonder. In the group shots Enio includes steps not shown as a couple form. Enio includes advanced forms of the basic steps.
Enio finished level 1 with a demonstration of these basic steps in their professional show. Level 2 starts off the same as level 1 with basic steps giving lots of variations of these steps up to advanced forms. Enio includes modern non traditional steps. This level shows some good basic steps. The video finishes with the compete demonstration of their professional show. This is an impressive display of exhibition Rueda combining traditional & modern Salsa steps.
Video 2  level 3 video covers over 45 steps. It starts out with a short series of public displays & class shots. It covers the 7 basic steps very quickly.  This video includes a written  on screen display of what is being shown. The steps are shown in a couple, 2 couple, group, upper body then foot shot. Terryl gives the females tips in this video. The teaching style is much improved over the first video. Enio then shows the hand signals at the end of this video. It finishes with a three couple display of the steps.
This is a long video over 60 minutes. If you can only afford to buy one video this would be the best value for money.
Video 3 now out. No review yet.
Enio calls his style Salsa Rueda & I think it is a good name for it. It combines traditional Casino Rueda with modern Salsa.

From Neal -Mike Bello is one of the most respected experts on Salsa in the World.

Mike Bello, the Mambo Fello's
Salsa - Mambo Shines Video, Volume One
The Mambo Fello has crafted a very visual detail of how to accomplish shines. This first video, with others soon to follow, in his Salsa/Mambo Video Series, begins with a Fundamentals of Salsa Music section as well as a Fundamentals of Dancing Mambo segment in the video. Topics covered in those areas are:
The Clave
Tumbao of the Conga
Technique and Drill for Contra-Body Motion
Mambo Hands and Mambo Kick
Core Rhythm of Salsa and Mambo
Basic Time Step Pattern in Both Classic and Modern Mambo
And more...
Mike has also displayed two ways to dance on 2: Classic Mambo (2,3,4 - 6,7,8) and Modern Mambo (1,2,3 - 5,6,77). Each shine is first broken down and then illustrated in each mambo timing. Afterwards, they are reviewed in practice mode to the tumbao of the conga as well as with the clave and the appropriate count for specific synchronization. There is no way that you can get lost here and you will quickly "own" each shine step (of course this comes with practice, as well)!
There is also a bonus salsa track of a new production at the end of the video by Johnny Polanco y su Conjunto Amistad from their forthcoming CD entitled "Mis Amigos."

Review of Salsa - Mambo Shines Video, Volume One

Mike Bello certainly deserves his reputation as an expert on New York Salsa.
This is one of the best Salsa video's I have ever seen.
It is also my second must have video for everyone.
I would class this as a must have for all styles.
This Salsa video is targeted at New York Mambo dancers but I feel anyone of any style who wishes to learn some excellent Footwork, Shines, (solo steps), will enjoy this video.
I am not a pure New York Mambo dancer but I can use these steps.

I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable & easy to understand this video was.
It is a massively long video at 85 min. It is packed full of shines.
It also contains a wealth of information about Salsa music & how to dance on the Clave, Classic & Modern Mambo.
This video has set a new standard on how shines should be shown in a video with a three window screen. One half a full body shot with a quarter close up & a quarter side on shot at the same time. Front & back views of all steps are also shown.
Each shine is first shown & broken down without music meaning anyone can learn the step then the counts are added for Classic & Modern Mambo. Then you practice each step to the rhythm.

This is a practical video of dance steps with the aim to explain the Clave & how to dance on it.

Mike then shows you how to join the shines into a solo routine. Then a couple dance showing you how to include the shines into your couple dancing.

Mike also has 2 rhythm cd's covering all the rhythms you will ever find in Salsa music.
These cd's are a must for those of you who want to learn how to dance on the Clave or any beat.
One of the cd jackets contains a wealth of written information. It is a small book worth.

All advanced dancers or teachers should be able to dance on the Clave as well as any beat.
Learn how to synchronize your dance steps with the videos & cd's.

Finally, Mike's aim in the video is to make you look "Cool". I must say he does with this video.
