Level : beginners to advanced
Style : Solo dancing through to couples Salsa Congress style with this warning.
* Many females over style their couples dancing so they make it less enjoyable for the males. "A little styling is good, every turn is bad". This is a personal view but it is also held by top female salsa teachers like the Edie the Salsafreak. It comes down to personal preference in the end however. This styling with every turn is becoming more common now. I call this style Salsa Congress Salsa. It is a performance style of Salsa dancing.
I have found that females who spend too much time on their styling become less of a couple dancer. This is the case with Burju. Burju is a great solo dancer but when she dances as part of a couple she does not follow the man she co-leads him *.
This is an excellent instruction dvd. The instruction is slow & complete. I think this dvd would be of benefit for any female Salsa dancers.
HYM's above ad is accurate. It clearly states what the dvd shows.
Our first Must have Salsa dvd for 2008.
Very good value for money. Well worth buying.

Our Review
Level: Intermediate to advanced with this caution.
Personaly I do not like combinations videos as you usually only do the combination as shown in nightclubs as Josie Neglia discovered in her 1980's Salsa combination video's. Salsa dancers on the dance floor do not like to be told.I know your combination, HYM style right? You end up with lots of comments when the pattern is well known.
I prefer the turns to be shown as individual steps in a dvd then you could make up you own patterns.
But for Intermediate dancers this dvd gives them some patterns that they can take to the dance floor.
For advanced dancers you will have to break the patterns down to use them.
Style: Performance Salsa / Salsa Congress style.
I did find the teaching of the footwork first as being unusual in a Salsa dvd. But it makes sense when you see how complex some of the combinations are for intermediate Salsa dancers.
The instruction is clearly shown. The intruction is very good & detailed.
The patterns shown are more a partnership than a lead & follow style.
Given how complex some of the moves are I did find only 8 combinations taught to be an acceptable price to pay for this dvd.
Overall an enjoyable dvd with some very popular turns.
Worth buying.
