style Cuban - NY - LA |
The style taught by the Razz M'Tazz dance company is social NY but becouse of it's detailed styling it is considered the best performance style. It can be used socially.
This Razz M'Tazz style is now worldwide. The dance company has been giving workshops in most of the world's top Salsa cities for years now. Many of the advanced dancers in your own city will have done their workshops & will be using their techniques & styling.

Razz M'Tazz
Salsa/Mambo
Seven videos + Audio Clave for dancing on the
two. You can see the style of dance in the movie Carlito's Way.
This style is performance Salsa.
These videos have the best whipping techniques. The female is the one who
does most of the dancing & style. This style is good for those females
who like to show off. More suitable for very good female follower's. These
video's are very good for women who have male partners who do not dance
or do not have rhythm. There is very little male movement. Very good flowing
Salsa. These techniques are great for performance dance company's or shows.
The videos cover theory, styling, of all the
moves shown. These are detailed basic videos on the New York style.
The videos are a good length. These video's
are regarded as the Bible for performing dance companies.
(1) Beginners Workshop Level 1
This is an excellent beginners video. It covers
basic theories of movement, Clave, dancing on the second beat, explains
common mistakes. The first 40 minutes is basic single steps. Basic step,
Back step, Salsa step, Forward step, Wave step ( You do not usually see
this step taught in a beginners class as it is very intimate step.), Basic
turn, Victory step, then a demo of all these steps done in a group. Then
partnering steps are shown. Basic right turn, circular basic right turns,
Basic right turn - for both female & male, Love hands ( again this
is a very intimate move.), Right turn to back hand slide, Four turn, Cross
body walk then Cross body turn. Then a couple demo then group demo of the
moves. This is a very good length video 60 min.
It is a fun but very detailed beginners video
with all techniques shown backwards & forwards & broken down in
detail. There are more moves than I have written as well as some very good
demo's throughout this video.
(2) Advanced Beginners Workshop Level 2
Demo's + an impressive list of the movies &
Tv programs the dance company has been on.
Review of basic steps from Video 1. The pattern
for the following steps follows the same as for Video 1. Demo - Breakdown
Review. Left turn, Hesitation left turn, Hand styles for turns, Partnering
Theories ( staying connected ), manners,
The Rooster & Hen, Ejection's ( free spins
), Casino passing theories, Demo of basic Casino. Turn Pattern's, Around
the World, Left turn theory, Reverse four turn, Thread the needle, Cross
body inward turn added to a Cross body turn. Whipping turns, Basic Whip,
Basic Whip double turn, Double turns + traveling Double turns, Swing turns.
There are more techniques than these. Finally a demo of the moves taught.
55 min.
(3) Ladies Styling Workshop.
This is not an instructional video
as such but a workshop video. The video does contain instructional clips
but they are short.
The teacher is shown in front of a class of students.
Some of the moves shown are very sexy. Not for the shy. It has a good warm
up section of exercises. The video covers the basic turns. I think there
are too many close ups of the students & also there is no explanation
of what the male should be doing but overall a good video for ladies NY
style.
(5) Shine On ! Open Footwork Workshop
Shines are the solo steps you do away from your
partner you can either do your own or you can mirror your partners steps.
This an excellent video. It is packed full
of Shines. The shines range from the basic to advanced jumping shines.
The first 25 are the most common New York social shines. From then on the
shines can be used in social or in performance dances. Although all shines
are good for performance dance companies. It all depends on your own style.
All the moves are shown facing the camera to start. Then the breakdown
the moves are shown facing away from the camera so you get the back
view. ( This answers the biggest complaint on the Salsa message boards
about those other Salsa teachers who have included shines in their videos
have so far only shown the front view making it hard to learn the step
for lots of dancers.) Each step is shown from the basic back into the basic.
Shine routine of the first 19 steps. How to join them together .There is
a routine of shines without basics in between. The video explains how to
learn these steps at home. How to join them together, etc.
The style of Mambo Razz m Tazz teaches (234,678)
is same foot pattern as people who dance on 1 (123, 567).
This is my favorite Razz M'Tazz video so far.
It's well worth buying for all levels & styles.
They also have a music cd that is great for practice.
Los
Soneros del Barrio. It really gets the feet taping.

David Paris recently came out with 3 lift videos:
one with Ava Apple, and two more with Carolyn Grimaldi..
THESE VIDEOS ARE ADVANCED/ MASTER LEVEL TECHNIQUES
The first two videos with David Paris & Carolyn Grimaldi, "Salsa lifts & Acrobatics", Video 1 & 2 are excellent.
The instruction starts out with pre training tips. This instruction covers all you need to know to be able to learn these techniques safely.
These lifts are all above the men's head.
All safety tips are well covered. How to avoid strain & back injurys is well covered.
The instruction is very clear.
The techniques are broken down into fairly easy to learn sections. However you must understand these are advanced/ Master level techniques so they do require a lot of practise to perform safely & well.
Common mistakes are well covered.
Very good entrances & exits are well covered.
David Paris is an excellent & enjoyable teacher. We really enjoyed these videos.
Well worth buying for performance or show off dancers. These techniques can be used by social dancers if you have lots of room & you want to show off.
